Sunrise
Enchanted by your charm
Praying fervently
That as you soar, make it gently
Delighted as I can be
I bent my knee
Softly, closing my eyes
While counting every inch of sighs
With your warm zephyr
I pledge my heart forever
That over the horizon
Happiness is woven

Missing You
Not every once in a while
Missing it everyday
And Making me wish for you to stay
I miss the way you look at me
Astonished like I want to flee
I miss the way you hold my hand
As though I was walking in grand
I miss your soft voice
Breathing out heavily, leaving me no choice
But to long and cry for it
Where tears falling to a deep hallow pit
I miss your touch, so cuddly
Where it makes me warm and fuzzy
I miss your kiss
Fireworks everywhere I see as I close my lids
…I just miss you so much

Tatay with his Yellow Clunky Old Truck

I was checking the month of January from our calendar where I saw something at the back of it. It was a drawing of a truck. Even though I did not see who drawn it but I knew it was my Tatay. It was his dream to have a truck. My Lola, who passed away last 2009, once told me that when Tatay was at my age, he really wants to buy a toy truck. However, Tatay had no money to buy it. Instead, he designed and crafted a toy truck out from the woods he collected near the river bank. Tatay’s passion for trucks began quite early in life. Growing up in a business-oriented family, he traveled extensively while living in different places of Mindanao. At an early age, Tatay began to appreciate different styles of trucks. At 16, he started to drive Lolo’s truck. Every weekend, he worked as a driver at Lolo’s trucking service. Tatay really liked driving Lolo’s truck. He was familiar in every parts of it. He even knew how to repair it. His passion and love for trucks evolved even further when he married my mom. He began dreaming of having his own truck. Good thing mom supported him. Tatay and Mom knew they couldn’t afford to buy a truck right away. With this, every month Tatay saved money to buy the parts he needed for assembling it. Finally after a year, Tatay had his own truck. We called it “Yellow” because of its color. He was so happy with it. Yellow helped Tatay in so many ways. With Yellow, my two sisters and I graduated from different universities in Davao City, my mom started her own business in Cotabato, Tatay was able to buy a new truck where we named it Blue, Tatay and mom were able to buy lands for farming. I remember, when I was a fourth year high school student, mom had no money to pay my tuition fee for my exam the next day. Luckily, that day a man came to look for my father and asked help to pull his truck. Tatay and Yellow helped him right away. At the end of the day, I was able to pay my tuition fee and have enough “baon” for the rest of the week. Thanks to Yellow! After 15 years, Yellow is now clunky and old. Yet, Tatay with his deep connection to it, has no plan to dispose it. Instead, Yellow is currently earning bigger profit compared to Tatay’s other new trucks. Yellow with its contract to a banana plantation company is able to feed 8 families everyday, its driver and the seven banana harvesters. Tatay with his yellow clunky old truck taught me about having a passion, a strong desire to have something, to make something come true. Yes..it was Tatay’s dedication and passion that made his dreams come true..and our dreams come true!
